Our Story
In 1939, brothers Mario and John Maura entered into the landscape gardening and maintenance business being operated by their father Michelangelo.
The two brothers worked side by side until 1940 when John entered into the military service, stationed in Barrow, Alaska. The business continued to evolve during this time and soon added a quality nursery and garden supply center which opened in Manhasset, New York.
The Maura brothers were reunited following John's discharge in 1945 and together continued to provide their customers with professional service and quality landscape design. The Maura Garden Center was renowned for its spectacular offering of Christmas trees, wreaths and roping during the holiday season.
Maura Bros. now offers more than just landscaping and maintenance. We became a full service company that would provide masonry, asphalt services, retaining walls, drainage systems, excavation and site work as well as commercial snow removal, all services which are still available today.
In 1967 Maura Bros. moved to Port Washington under the leadership of John Sr. who was at the helm up until his retirement in 1976, following which his two sons, John Jr. & Ronald, took over the business.
Today Maura Bros. has moved into its fourth generation & continues the traditions started in the 1930's, affording its customers the best in quality, service and design, with Rob embracing those same principles of integrity, honesty and customer satisfaction that their great-grandfather instilled in the business at its inception.
